More Global Warming, But Maybe Cooling?

If you have followed this blog (all one of you who have) then you know that I have previously posted some information on the topic of global warming. I have had a bit of trouble deciding which side of this debate I am on, and even more so after today. I ran across a number of blog posts which are staunchly against the thesis of the global warming phenomenon. I cannot speak to the credentials of the following links, so let the reader be warned.

An article in First things came out very strongly against the GW thesis and made some more audacious statements about what the author thinks is a waning of the social movement surrounding GW.

Here is a website claiming to be the longest running blog opposing GW. They seem to have their ducks in a row, but again, I don’t exactly have credentials in the area of meteorology of climatology.

I also ran across two other websites which had posted some data regarding temperature readings globally. I know for a fact that the one guy is a musician and not a trained scientist, the other guy I don’t know about. These sites can be found here (the musician guy) and here (the other guy).

And the debate continues. If any of you know of an authority on this topic that has a response to some of these issues, I would love the reference.

One Response to “More Global Warming, But Maybe Cooling?”

  1. Diatribical Idiot Says:

    Hey! Just because a guy’s a musician doesn’t mean he’s an idiot! ;)

I’m kidding… it’s good to offer up those caveats. But just to let you know, Anthony Watts in your other link is in the field. He has studied this issue for literally decades and is responsible for a surface station review that has included being invited to NCDC to review their new surface station technology.

As for me, yeah, I’m a musician. I’m not a climatologist. However, if it gives you any comfort, I am an actuary and am trained in modeling and statistical analysis. The majority of my posts on the topic simply look at the trends in the numbers. I have made conclusions of my own based on other study, and give my own insights (I studied Physics and Chemistry significantly before moving on to my chosen field, so I have an understanding in such matters). But most of my posts simply present the different data trends that I see. These trends are not necessarily indicative of our long-term future, but at the same time they betray many of the claims we’ve heard.

Anyway, thanks for linking my post. Carry on.
